A Montgomery County teacher is arrested for public intoxication

A 26-year-old kindergarten teacher has been released from her job with the Montgomery County School System after she apparently was found to be intoxicated on school grounds.

Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office reportedly received a call from one of the area school district's human resources officers at around 10:20 a.m. the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 11. That individual noted that school personnel suspected that one of its teachers may have been intoxicated while at work. It's unclear if she arrived to work that way or if she became intoxicated while there.

Within moments, police officers arrived at the Eastern Montogomery Elementary School, located just seven miles north of Christianburg, Virginia. When they arrived, they escorted the teacher suspected of being drunk into the principal's office. It's unclear whether the teacher made any admissions or completed any field sobriety testing once inside there. After some time though, deputies placed her under arrest.

The teacher was transported to the Montgomery County Jail where she was booked on public intoxication charges. Within hours, she'd posted bond. The school district reports that the teacher is no longer employed with its system. It's unclear when the woman's next hearing is in her case.

Simply being arrested for public intoxication charges can result in an individual losing their job, custody of the kids, access to scholarships and other penalties. A conviction for such a crime can make it difficult for a defendant to earn a living long-term. If you're facing public drunkedness or disorderly conduct charges, a Christianburg criminal defense attorney can advise you of your rights in your case.
